5 Safety Tips For Women Traveling Alone
I have a question...
Do you travel solo? It can be intimidating, especially if you're a woman. I currently travel more by myself than I do with others. Over the years, I've found what works and what doesn't (and I'm still learning with every trip I take).
Today, I'm sharing π± π¦ππππ§π¬ π§ππ£π¦ ππ’π₯ πͺπ’π ππ‘ π§π₯ππ©ππππ‘π πππ’π‘π.β¦
1οΈβ£ When taking a taxi, keep all of your belongings with you in the back seat so you can retain control of when you can get out. I've had one too many experiences where a shady taxi driver has tried to take advantage of me being by myself... if a cab takes a longer route, tries to overcharge you, or if things feel uncomfortable, you'll feel more confident knowing your things aren't being held hostage in the trunk. You can make a quick exit if your belongings are with you.
2οΈβ£ If you're staying alone in a hotel, always ride the elevator by yourself. You don't want to give someone an opportunity to follow you to your room. I wait in the lobby until there's an opportunity to ride up by myself, and I make sure I'm alert while I walk to my room. And of course, make sure you're locking the door and deadbolt behind you!
3οΈβ£ Avoid arriving at your destination in the dark. By arriving when it's light out you'll have more awareness of your surroundings, but there's also a better chance other people will be around- giving you that extra feeling of security.
4οΈβ£ When it's dark, try to walk with crowds. Youβre less of a target for someone if you're around other people. I've been followed on multiple occasions and it's so scary- if this happens to you, pop in to the nearest restaurant or hotel. If there's security present, let them know you're being followed.
5οΈβ£ Carry a personal safety alarm. Traveling with pepper spray on an airplane is a no-go (and some countries consider it a concealed weapon), so a personal alarm (the one I own is by @shes_birdie) is the next best thing- it's compact and super easy to use. It's really loud, and a good deterrent if someone gets too close.
